Splatt Bridge – Patch Bridge (Slimbridge) (Fri 12th July)

Left at 10:00 arrived at 11:00.

I had a bad nights sleep, stayed up too late watching The Zoo, its a lovely programme but on far too late.  Warm on getting up and very still with a heat haze over the distant hills, Derek says its gonna be a scorcher.  Posted rest of yesterdays blog and pics and decided to tidy my little Dolls House round (fancied a play) We filled up with water and I had a walk!  Round the gunwhales to tidy the planters round and water them.?   There were quite a few boats out on the water, NBs and cruisers, probably like us all hoping to get to their moorings before it gets too hot, everyone seems really cheerful, the sun is doing us all good.  Arrived at Patch Bridge (Slimbridge) at 11. There is just enough room for us to moor in front of the other moored boats, just after the traffic lights and water tap, perfect timing.  Derek went to get a paper and an ice cream from the shop, he seemed to be away a while?  When he came back he had a smile on his face, he found out that he could change our empty gas bottle at the sell everything shop!  He dashed back with our empty bottle and exchanged it for a full one, it doesn’t take much to make him happy!!  We had our lunch and a dish of strawberries and one tub of ice cream, Mr Generosity bought two, so save one for tomorrow.  Derek put the generator on for a  while  to top up the batteries and the guy behind us did the same.  We had a lazy afternoon, reading the papers, crafting and Derek popping in and out to tinker with stuff on the boat.  He chatted to a man who came to full up with water at the tap, discussing  where around here is the best place for diesel, we plan to fill Esme up before putting her in the marina, so shes ready for the off when we come back with the girls.  The best place was down the canal on the Industrial estate just before Fretherne Bridge. I think my fabrication of a plan may be able to come to fruition??? Fabric and Sale come to mind!!!! I did a bit of sewing and we both snoozed.  I decided we would have tea at the Pub so went to take the rubbish and have a look at the serving times.  We both had showers got changed and went for tea, Derek had chilli con carne I had scampi, it  was really nice and the pub is a very popular place.  When we left I had a walk down the lane opposite the pub for a nosy and Derek went back to the boat.  There are some lovely houses down the lane, one was derelict but has scaffolding up, obviously  going to be renovated.  The houses on one side of the lane back on to the canal, the gardens are really nice, one of the houses garage was particularly nice with beams which made it look like a medieval cottage?  A few of the properties had stained glass windows, one was quite modern with flowers, but the really special one had painted stained glass in it which looked like a piece from a church window, it was a pair of sheep, cool or what.  Back at the boat we watched Hampton Court Palace flower show and carried on lazing about, sewing and drinking lots, mostly tea on my part.  The smell of barbecue came over the air and by bed time was heavy in the air, horrible I think.  Looking down the canal there were quite a lot of boats with their lights sparkling in the dark and we could hear a group of people singing and having a laugh, the sounds and smells of a summer night.!!!!.
