Gloucester (Tues 9th July)

What a night !  aching really sore knees and hips and as if that wasn’t bad enough, the noisiest neighbours ever?  Gulls of all types squalking and screaming continuously. We had the hatch and porthole open because of the heat but I gave in at 3:40 and shut it all up.  Derek had slept till then so between his snoring and their squaking I had a headache, I made a warm drink  and took some paracetamols and tried to sleep.  We could now both still hear the noisy beggars but I did manage to get a bit of rest despite it.   Derek made an executive decision to move from these pontoons into the Quay after we had filled up with water.  We can still hear them in there but its not as bad, we think we are next to their nesting and roosting place, in the old warehouse that hasn’t been done up yet, they don’t appear to sleep at all. There was lots of action at the water point? NB Briony was reversing out from the tap and a NB (from Knottingley) started to move in, almost running in to him.  Lots of shouting ensued from Mr/Mrs Briony (not sure of the gender!!!) Bridge keeper thought he was being shouted at, he opened bridge but Briony was going the other way, so he closed it again. I don’t know it must be the weather, canal rage before 10 00 Derek started the engine to give it a run whilst we waited an age for the water point, he had a chat with NB Knottingley, he comes from Knottingley originally and used to work at Harkers Boat Yard (we have seen him on the waterways a few times whilst we ve been away)  he’s based in Oxford and now lives on the boat, the boat is a bit scruffy and could do with a wash if nothing else.  I decided to sort clothes round ready for girls coming, taking some trousers and jumpers home and managing with what’s left, if it turns cold we have plenty of boat coats and cardis.  I needed to make some space for their clothes in the back cabin.  We had elevenses and I went on a trek to town, I wanted boots for some toiletries etc.  I found my way perfectly and came upon a flea market shop (their title not mine) it was lovely two floors of all sorts.  I got a green ivy shaped dish and a few bits for the girls, total spend £6, didn’t I do well??   Asked the way to boots and found my way there too without too much trouble.  I went into the old fashioned Market Hall, it was lovely such a different atmosphere to the malls, the stall holders are much more sociable.  I found a trusty haberdashers stall, got stuffing, felt and ribbons ready for my crafts on the next leg of our journey, bought a pie from the butchers stall and wend my way back to the boat.  We had late lunch 1:30ish and a rest.  Derek had posted the blog(Idid some before I left) and taken the bath pump out, we need a new part, he will order it when we go home, it only takes a day or so to come.  I sorted more bits and pieces round ready for home whilst Derek walked the dogs.  They weren’t too bothered as it’s really hot by now, so only a quick one.  We went for a walk to the Antique Centre for cake and coffee (told you its compulsory) and had a browse round, its air conditioned so lovely and refreshing whilst mooching.  I got two lovely cards to frame and we came back to the boat for the rest of the evening, back at the boat Derek had a beer and I had an ice cold shandy.  There are some of those pesky Juvenille gulls on our pontoons, hopefully they will move out tonight or I fear a murder may be committed.
