Lady Lane Wharf – Hockley Heath (Sat 10th Aug)

Left at 09:45 arrived at 11:05
What a night unfortunately I spent most of it feeling ill, disturbing Derek and the dogs, I had obviously been too piggy altogether. Derek did say lack of lock fatigue was a contributory factor, that should be sorted  in the next few days we have over 40 locks, some narrow and some broad (those are when Niamh joins us)?? They will get us on the River Soar and on our way home.  Its cool and a bit dull today a bit like yesterday.  Derek has been working the route out and it will be approximately the end of August when we get back to Yorkshire, just in time for the Grandkids to go back to school. Set off at about 9:45. There is a large derelict farmhouse at the end of where we moored, it does however have a new fence, so we wondered it some one was intending to renovate it, it need a lot of work but could be really lovely.  Pulling in to the side as a Hire NB is coming behind us, Derek lets him get by as we are not in any hurry.  Warings Green Wharf is another row of permanent moorings, the first 2 boats being newly painted and very shiny, NB Tullulah, very burgundy and the next one a little NB that was very green, look very smart in their non-traditional livery.  There were a few shiny newly painted boats further along , one was traditional in red/yellow/green, its name Willy No Name!!  Further along was a boat belonging to a Mr. Miller and NB painted, maybe he had a bit of work here then.  There were 15 or more boats here and at the end of the long row, a diesel pump and water tap at £1 a fill.  Nearing Hockley Heath there were two lovely houses with raised platform patios in the garden, the second was particularly nice, it had pale green painted windows and garden table and chairs and a seat made out of  what looked like an old wooden canoe, looking up at the ridge of the extension on the side, there was a finial, a hare looking up to the moor, gorgeous, Want One???   Arrived at 11:05 little NB Gloria, she had shiny brasses and paintwork and we have seen here around and about on our travels, plus one other NB then us and then three more, we are swarming again, having a cuppa then find the shops.  The man from NB Delft who we spoke to yesterday was taking some family out for a jaunt. We found the little convenience store and stocked up with provisions for Niamhs arrival and as we had no tele, watched DVDs and I started another bear to keep me busy along the way.
