Braunston (Sun 18th Aug)

Lazy day today, waiting for Matthew to arrive.  Derek up and been to the shop well before 8, it opens early but the little cafe was closed on Sundays.  The Gongoozlers Rest was open for business as usual and had customers on board early doors.  It’s bright and breezy but a bit cool on the boat as we are shaded by the trees.  Niamh up before 9, so all breakfasted and showered by 10.  Derek took the dogs for a walk down to the junction to watch the comings and goings, it’s a bit quieter this morning, not as many boats but a steady flow coming to the water point and some moored behind us have moved off.  Derek started to fill our water, using two hoses so we didn’t have to move up to the tap, then a steam driven boat came to use the tap, he let him have the water point as he needed it more than us.  On chatting to the owner, he found out that he had built the boat as an engineering project and he said he wasn’t really a boaty sort of person.  He was taking it back to its mooring in Coventry, it created quite a stir, and people were stopping to photograph it, mainly the engine through the open hatch doors.  After breakfast I cleared dirty washing round and generally tidied up, sorted the cupboards over the bed.  We estimate tha we should be home in just under a fortnight, originally Derek said it would be 31st August butg now we are not going through Foxton and Leicester we will be a bit quicker.  Niamh gathered some of her gear together and I went for a walk to the Junction, took a few photos and wend my way back.  It was getting warm in the sunshine, when I got back to the boat I decided it was lunch time.  Derek did a lovely fry up and we sat about watching films (Niamh’s idea) and reading the papers. Me and Derek had another walk with the dogs, Matt had set off and thought it would probably be 4 when he arrived.  I persuaded Niamh to go for a walk to see if we could see her Dad, lo and behold as we turned under the bridge and into the Marina, he was turning into the car part.  It was only about 4, he had gone the wrong way at one point but still managed to get her on time. We walked back to the boat, he had a coffee, Niamh packed her suitcase (he brought it with him) and they were on their way for 5, planning to call at Miss Amelias with her forgotten handbag. We went to the pub for our tea? Neither of us could be bothered to cook, we had a nice meal, the pub was busy as always, went back to the boat to watch BBC TV, it was all the channels we had, Derek snoozed, I crafted and in bed for 10:30.
